Project: African Children's Choir stageshow
Client: Dubai Shopping Festival Office
Date: August 2009
Details:

The annual Dubai Summer Surprises festival always offers a host of local and musical performances from groups keen to showcase their singing talents at participating malls and outlets throughout the city.

But without doubt the most inspiring of these acts has been the African Children’s Choir; a troupe of 23 junior performers whose vibrant show celebrates triumph over adversity.

links Read More +/-

The performances on display were energetic, joyful and a celebration of life; something that can be seen as a poignant achievement for this particular ensemble. The young choir members, who are aged between 7 to 12 years, have certainly proved the ability of the human spirit to overcome adversity, as every one of them has lost one or more of their parents through disease or the consequences of conflict.

The African Children’s Choir started life as the Uganda-based “Music for Life” charity. The organisation began to sponsor vulnerable youths to sing in the choir, sending them travelling around the globe for performances. The choir now generates funds through these shows and by selling African Children’s Choir merchandise; such as T-shirts, mugs and CDs.

As well as allowing the youngsters to see other parts of the world, the money raised pays for each member’s education all the way through university, meaning that they are given an opportunity that would have been denied to them before being brought into the programme. Generous benefactors also help by providing individual sponsorship for choir members’ education.
